Buenos Aires, December 11 (NA) – Marc García Puig, head coach of Ávila from the Spanish second division, is at the center of a storm after being accused of hitting a disabled journalist.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident is said to have occurred at the end of a tense press conference, where García Puig had a heated argument with a journalist, after which he allegedly pushed the wheelchair of a Coruxo FC press member, causing him to fall from it and suffer a nervous breakdown.
Following the incident, Coruxo FC issued a statement condemning «in the strongest terms the alleged physical assault suffered by our executive in the press conference area. Furthermore, several witnesses present in the area have confirmed that the situation described did not occur at any time, thus categorically refuting the statements made», the statement began.
Likewise, it added: «The coach, accompanied by the responsible parties of Real Ávila CF, will file a complaint for defamation as soon as the team returns to Ávila, going to the corresponding police station to initiate the appropriate legal actions».
«Violence has no place in our institution or in sport», the Real Ávila statement read.
«The club also published a statement denying what happened and ratifying García Puig as an 'exemplary professional, with an impeccable career on and off the field of play'».
