Bus accident in Barcelona leaves 34 injured

A collision between two buses in downtown Barcelona has resulted in 34 injuries, including four in critical condition. The cause is under investigation.


In the center of Barcelona, a collision between two buses resulted in thirty-four injuries, four of them in critical condition. Clara Canal, head of the Emergency Medical Service (SEM) in Barcelona, confirmed that one of the critically injured was a minor who was boarding the first bus at the time of the accident.

The incident occurred when a bus from the Canals company rear-ended another from the Julià company, which was stopped while passengers were boarding. According to Canal, one of the critically injured had to be rescued after being trapped in one of the vehicles for over an hour.

Agents from the Urban Guard and teams from the Mossos d’Esquadra Firefighters participated in the rescue and medical assistance efforts for the victims. Additionally, nineteen ambulances and four teams of psychologists from the SEM were deployed to the area to assist the sixty-three affected individuals.

Albert Batlle, head of Prevention, Security, Coexistence, and Internal Regime of the Barcelona City Council, reported that the causes of the accident are still under investigation. The critically injured and those with less severe injuries were taken to different medical centers in the city.

The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, expressed his concern about what happened and remained in contact with local authorities and emergency services. The accident took place near the intersection of Roger de Llúria and Rosellón streets, at number 361 on Diagonal Avenue in Barcelona. The city's mayor, Jaume Collboni, and emergency services acted swiftly in assisting those affected.
