Workers Protest at Camp Nou Stadium

Dozens of workers protested outside Camp Nou stadium against the potential layoff and deportation of nearly 50 employees involved in the stadium's construction, who are in an irregular administrative status. The Workers' Commissions (CCOO), which called for the demonstration, confirmed that the companies 'Ekstreme Works' and 'Limak' 'intend to send them back to their home countries without any guarantees'. Carlos del Barrio, a union official in Catalonia, stated: 'They work 12 hours a day for 7 days a week, some of them for over a year'. He added that these are workers 'who do not have legal papers' and that the companies 'plan to send them back to their original countries'. 'The moment their feet touch Turkish soil, their ability to defend themselves will diminish,' he continued. He also demanded that these workers be registered with the social security system, their salaries be made regular, and that the coalition government activate the clause in the foreigners' regulations for exceptional regularization due to cooperation with labor authorities. A union spokesperson explained that the Catalan club has 'turned a deaf ear' to this situation, which the union has already raised with the labor inspection.
