The mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido, along with the president of the Urban Planning Management, Miguel Ángel Torrico, announced in a press conference the start of the restoration works of the old convent of Santa Clara, located on Rey Heredia Street. The restoration, consolidation, and cleaning will take place in three areas: the base of the tower, the steps leading to the viewpoint, and the internal and external walls of the minaret.
According to Bellido, this intervention will be financed with European funds from the Next Generation program, specifically the Impulsa Patrimonio program, which has allocated 3 million euros for each beneficiary city. This project adds to other initiatives already completed, such as the interventions carried out at the Roman Temple and the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos. In addition, it is expected that the annexed dependencies of the convent of Santa Clara, currently occupied by the Tourism delegation of the City Council, will eventually become the Cofrade Museum and a new headquarters for the Brotherhoods Association.
The recovery of the historical-artistic heritage of the capital of Córdoba has been highlighted by Bellido, who mentioned other actions carried out at sites such as the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, like the opening of the south gate, the restoration of the Puerta del Puente, and the Molino de Martos, as well as interventions in small altars, such as the one on Lineros Street.
The company Antroju will be responsible for carrying out the intervention at the old convent of Santa Clara, with a primary focus on the restoration of the church's tower-minaret, as well as the rehabilitation and improvement of accessibility and energy efficiency of the annexed dependencies. The project, which is scheduled to last 12 months, will begin this week and has a budget of 486,396 euros.
