Man Rescued at Sea on Inflatable Mattress

A man was rescued in the Mediterranean Sea after he was spotted floating on an inflatable mattress 37 kilometers off the coast. The crew of an oil tanker, initially mistaking him for a lost toy, used binoculars to see that it was a man calmly paddling on an air mattress using a paddle as an oar. The Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Association confirmed that it was an adult man, fully clothed, who was calmly rowing in the open sea. The rescued man later explained that he 'just went out for a paddle, and the current took him further than he had planned.' A high-speed rescue boat was dispatched to save the man and take him to the port of Estepona, where he was examined by medical personnel and then released.
