The 15th Congress of the PSdeG will conclude on Sunday with the participation of the Secretary General of the PSOE and President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The current Secretary General, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, will reaffirm his position for another term, leading the party after the regional elections of 2024. Amid criticism and internal changes, Besteiro has stated that the new team of the PSdeG will represent "all sensitivities" and has downplayed the potential departures in the party leadership, claiming that the processes are evolutionary.
Regarding the criticisms expressed by the Juventudes Socialistas, Besteiro has mentioned that he will respect the decision on who will take over the mayoralty of Lugo following the death of Paula Alvarellos. It is also expected that the increase in support received by errant councilors in Santiago de Compostela will be addressed during the Congress.
During the session on Saturday, the PSdeG will participate in mobilizations for International Women's Day. Topics that go beyond the internal reorganization of the party will be discussed, including equality, social justice, public services, and the defense of democracy against the onslaughts of the far right and ultra-nationalism. The slogan of the congress, "The left that can," reflects the idea that in Galicia, there will only be a change if the PSdeG is at the forefront.
