2023 Research Awards Recognize Andalusian Nurses

The fourth edition of the Research Awards from the General Council of Nursing took place in Madrid, recognizing the work of Andalusian professionals in the health sector. With six awards given, half went to nurses from Andalusia, highlighting the work of Rafael Mesa Rico in heart failure.


The fourth edition of the Research Awards from the General Council of Nursing took place in Madrid and was notable for having a strong presence of Andalusian professionals. Out of the six awards presented, half were awarded to nurses from the region, who presented projects on the role of nursing in patients with heart failure, in critical condition, and related to artistic support. In total, 16 proposals from all over Spain were competing for these awards.

In the 'Hospital Setting' category, Rafael Mesa Rico from Málaga was honored for his work on the effectiveness and efficiency of a nursing follow-up program for patients with heart failure. Additionally, two Andalusians were finalists in this category. Jessica Marian Goodman Casanova, also from Málaga, received recognition for her doctoral thesis on the impact of participatory arts in museums on mental health recovery.

During the ceremony, the president of the Andalusian Council of Nursing Colleges (CAE), María del Mar García Martín, praised the research potential of nursing in Andalucía and highlighted the high standard of the works presented. She emphasized the daily effort and commitment of Andalusian professionals to research, stressing the importance of having nurse managers in decisive roles to contribute knowledge and excellence to the profession.

The awards included recognitions such as the Best Doctoral Thesis, awarded to Pilar Aparicio Martínez from Córdoba; Young Promises of Nursing Research, where Rafael Jesús Fernández Castillo from Seville was recognized; and other awards for the Community and Social, as well as Hospital categories, awarded to Carmen Aránzazu Bermúdez from Málaga. The projects were praised for their quality and contribution to the field of nursing.

In summary, the Andalusian presence was outstanding at the Research Awards from the General Council of Nursing, reflecting the commitment and excellence of professionals in the region in the field of nursing research.
