Investigation Launched Against Begoña Gómez

Begoña Gómez, wife of the Spanish Prime Minister, is under investigation for misuse of a software project linked to the Complutense University of Madrid. The inquiry includes allegations of professional intrusiveness and corruption. The case is ongoing as the judicial system seeks clarity in the matter.

The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) was involved in an investigation process related to software created for the university's extraordinary chair, which ended up in the hands of a company registered in the name of Begoña Gómez, wife of the Prime Minister. Hazte Oír reported that the website hosting the software was deleted, raising suspicions and tensions in the case.

Amid these inquiries, Begoña Gómez was being investigated for influence peddling, corruption among private individuals, embezzlement, and professional intrusion. She was accused of having signed technical prescriptions for an IT engineering project without the necessary official qualifications. Following these allegations, the judge of the Instruction Court number 41 in Madrid accepted the complaint from Hazte Oír against her.

The complaint alleged that Begoña Gómez was responsible for drafting specifications for contracts without the necessary technical qualification, which might constitute a crime of professional intrusion. The software in question aimed to allow companies to assess their social commitment, although it was revealed that the issuance of the report was automatic, without prior verification of the information provided.

The judge requested information from companies involved in the development of the software regarding investments made and tax deductions obtained. He also summoned Begoña Gómez to testify before the court. Gómez's defense argued that the creation of a commercial company registered in her name was unrelated to the Complutense University, raising doubts about the management of the software.

It was questioned whether a certification was being sought for companies in public procurement processes through these reports. The investigation also examined the participation of various entities in the project, as well as the economic agreements signed within the framework of the Chair of Competitive Social Transformation. Judicial proceedings have revealed possible irregularities in the management of the software and its financing.
