In Spain, intense rains have once again caused the evacuation of thousands of people and the suspension of train services in the city of Málaga. This phenomenon occurs just two weeks after the devastating floods that left 223 fatalities, mainly in the Valencia region. The State Meteorological Agency has issued a red alert in Málaga and Tarragona due to a new isolated depression at high levels, known as cold drop.
In Málaga, more than 3,000 people have been evacuated from their homes near rivers, flooded streets, and urban transport, as well as trains to Madrid, have been interrupted. The regional president of Andalusia, Juan Manuel Moreno, stated that the city is paralyzed and emphasized the importance of preventing and minimizing human losses, using the recent events in Valencia as an example.
As a consequence of the adverse weather conditions, a women's tennis match between Spain and Poland, corresponding to the Billie Jean King Cup, scheduled in Málaga, was postponed. It is explained that a 'dana' is a mass of cold air that meets a mass of warm air, generating strong atmospheric disturbances and intense rains.
