Spanish Police Dismantles Seven Criminal Organizations on the Costa del Sol

The Spanish police arrested 55 members of seven drug gangs in the south of the country. During the operation, nearly nine tons of drugs, 37 firearms, and 150,000 euros were seized. Law enforcement uncovered several high-profile crimes, including a kidnapping and shootouts in tourist areas.

The Spanish police have dismantled seven criminal organizations on the Costa del Sol (south) and arrested 55 very violent drug traffickers, seizing 37 firearms and ammunition, this security body reported on Wednesday.

The arrested individuals, with a high degree of specialization, were detained in several operations carried out in recent weeks, according to the provincial police chief, Roberto Rodríguez Velasco, who highlighted the clarification of a kidnapping in Marbella and two shootouts, in Málaga capital and Benalmádena, very touristy areas of Spain.

In the different searches, a significant arsenal was seized, emphasized the government delegate in Málaga, Francisco Javier Salas Ruiz, who described the operation as "the most precise and hard blow against organized crime in our province in recent times".

In the operations, nearly nine tons of drugs, hashish, and cocaine were seized, forty vehicles, and more than 150,000 euros.

In one of the operations, for example, agents arrested ten French citizens, whose center of operations was the Costa del Sol, in relation to the alleged crimes of kidnapping and injuries.

The police were able to attribute their participation, on commission, in the illegal detention of a Moroccan citizen, who was assaulted in a restaurant parking lot in Marbella, in October 2024, who was released a few days later.

In another operation, two French citizens were arrested in relation to the attempted homicide of two Swedish subjects, which occurred last December.

These facts show the danger of the arrested and the high degree of violence they used, highlighted the commissioner, who specified that within the framework of this investigation, 21 firearms that the organization had stored in a house in Estepona (Costa del Sol) were seized.

In the rest of the operations, the agents also confirmed the high danger of the arrested and their way of acting; in addition, they discovered that some of the investigated individuals in different operations belonged to the same organization and were dedicated to carrying out different crimes, including kidnappings, settling scores, and drug trafficking.
