Segovia Holds the Turkey Race

Segovia hosted the 90th Turkey Race, a unique sporting event where participants compete on chainless bicycles. The winner was ten-time champion Julio Martín.

This Thursday, Segovia fulfilled one of its most popular Christmas traditions. Despite the cold and even some snowflakes falling, the scene was the same as in previous years. The champion was named the winner after defeating Hugo Sanz, who has been the champion three times, in a tiebreaker. In the women's category, Emma Alonso was the winner. The winner of this peculiar race, where bicycles have no chains and participants must cover an 800-meter course through the historic center without pedaling, using only the force of their arms and maintaining balance, has been Julio Martín, who was crowned winner for the tenth time in this race. Every year on Christmas Day, Segovia holds this sporting event on the most central streets and fills with spectators. The city of the Aqueduct once again celebrated the Turkey Race, which this year reached its ninetieth edition and again brought hundreds of people to the city center.
