
Olympic marathon runner Daniela Torres Huerta, although she did not surpass her personal best of 2:28:55 and did not achieve the minimum required for the 2025 Tokyo World Championship, managed to place herself as the fourth-best Latina in the 2025 Zurich Marathon in Seville. Despite a decrease in her speed in the last segments, with a time of 2:28:35 at the 40 km mark, she finished behind athletes such as Peruvian Sheyla Eulogio, and Ecuadorian Mary Granja and Rosa Chacha.
In a message on social media, Torres Huerta expressed her satisfaction for overcoming an injury that had affected her for months and had filled her with insecurities. Her performance in Seville represents an important step in her preparation to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The athlete started the race with a good pace, recording 35:19 in the first 10 km, 1:10:31 in the 20 km, and 1:46:39 upon completing the 30 km.
The annual event, held since 1985, featured the participation of 14,000 athletes from over 100 nationalities in the 2025 Zurich Marathon in Seville. The race is known for its flat and fast course, making it ideal for personal records and international qualifications. The winner in the female category was Ethiopian Anchinalu Dessie, with an impressive time of 2:22:17.
