Parents Fight for Custody of Newborn in Toledo

Yumara and Abdel are battling to regain custody of their newborn daughter, Yliana, taken by social services due to claims of inadequate support. Despite having stable jobs and housing, they face obstacles in proving their parental capacity. Their case has drawn attention to the complexities of social intervention and parental rights in Toledo.

A young couple composed of Yumara and Abdel find themselves in a difficult situation following the birth of their daughter Yliana on December 6th in Toledo. Three days later, the girl was taken from their arms by the Child and Family Welfare Service of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha in this province.

The couple, who reside in the Historic Center of Toledo, have expressed their disagreement with the decision that took their daughter's guardianship, arguing that they have their own home, family support, work, and the willingness to care for the girl. Despite attending all appointments and having several interviews with municipal social services, they are allowed to see their daughter only one hour a month under supervision.

Yumara, 19 years old, grew up in a foster home and met Abdel, 32 years old, a year and a half ago. They both awaited their daughter with excitement and feel unjustly treated by the decision to separate them from the baby. Despite having all the preparations to welcome Yliana into their home, she was taken away for reasons related to Yumara's past situation, who was under guardianship during her childhood due to abuse and neglect by her parents.

The couple, who are fighting to regain their daughter, feel helpless due to the situation and face legal proceedings to try to overturn the decision. Meanwhile, Yumara and Abdel maintain hope of being able to raise their daughter together and continue to demonstrate that they are capable of caring for her properly. The case is judicialized and awaiting a final resolution.
