Archbishop Luis Argüello to Proclaim Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco

Archbishop Luis Argüello will proclaim the Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco for 2026. He is known for his active participation in liturgical events and celebrations.

Luis Argüello, Archbishop of Valladolid and president of the Spanish Bishops' Conference (CEE), will be the one to proclaim the proclamation for the Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco (Valladolid) on March 28, 2026. The Holy Week in Medina de Rioseco has been declared of International Tourist Interest. In its statement, the local Holy Week Board noted that it is 'a great honor to present Monsignor Argüello as the proclaimer of our Holy Week for the year 2026.' The board also recalled his origins and his connection to the 'City of the Admirals' on a personal and pastoral level. As a vicar, auxiliary bishop, and archbishop of Valladolid, it is customary for him to be present at numerous liturgical acts and celebrations of this Holy Week, 'of which he is a great connoisseur, participating year after year, either in Lent or in the Holy Week itself, in one of the many organized events, always showing great affection and closeness to Holy Week, the brotherhoods, and the brothers.' During his speech in the Throne Room of the Archbishop's Palace, during his Christmas greeting, Argüello asked the people of Valladolid to enjoy 'the joy of encounter and hope' at Christmas to live and 'together' in the city, whether from beliefs, different ways of thinking, or having different criteria. 'That is why we say 'Merry Christmas' because God wanted to come to meet us,' asserted the archbishop.
