The international chain of hypermarkets in the price club format, Costco, has been a key success factor in the consolidation of the Plaza Imperial complex in Zaragoza since its opening in September 2024. According to the promoters, the demolition of the Plaza Imperial shopping gallery structure will begin in the third quarter of this year, which will reopen at the end of next year 2026 with a new name, Plaza Park Zaragoza. The promoters claim that the demand to set up in this location is high. The complex will feature Costco at the end of the lot, serving as a significant commercial attraction to draw visitors to the area. Alternative and sustainable transportation will be promoted, with direct access to bike circuits and a specific parking area for bicycles. Instead of the current structure, a mixed-use commercial park will be built, including fashion, home, sports, and pet stores, as well as new common areas with seating zones, green spaces, and pedestrian walks. The cinemas and the dining area will be renovated to integrate with the concept of experiential "outdoor retail." Plaza Park Zaragoza will offer retail spaces of different sizes to attract a wide range of retailers. Additionally, it will have a hotel on a reserved plot of 1,500 m². The plan requires an investment of 56 million euros and is expected to create more than a thousand jobs once the complex is operational, with construction scheduled to begin at the end of this year. The project is driven by the promoters Inversiones Carney, who acquired the complex in 2018. It aims to reposition the commercial area, transforming 40,000 m² of gross leasable area into an innovative concept of experiential and sustainable outdoor shopping spaces. Plaza Park Zaragoza is located in a strategic point of the city, near PlaZa, one of the largest logistics platforms in Spain, with direct access from the A2 motorway. The inclusion of an aggressive discount concept and the presence of operators from various sectors is anticipated. Furthermore, its location near the Zaragoza Exhibition Fair and just 10 minutes from the city center makes it an attractive spot for visitors.
