The head of the European Central Bank, Luis de Guindos, stated in the Sunday Times that cryptocurrencies do not provide real utility, and he also supported the regulation of digital assets. He noted that central banks must be ready for the introduction of digital versions of their currencies. At the same time, Guindos anticipated a delay in the launch of the digital euro, as the implementation process could take several years. "We view digital currencies more as assets rather than currency, and they do not fulfill the functions of a medium of exchange," added Guindos.
