The passage of a tornado last Monday in Torre de Juan Abad, Ciudad Real, has caused severe material damage, prompting the City Council to request the declaration of a disaster zone. The phenomenon lasted a few minutes and left a trail of destruction.
The president of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, Miguel Ángel Valverde, and the delegate of the Regional Government, Blanca Fernández, along with the Deputy Government Representative, David Broceño, visited the municipality to offer the collaboration of these administrations in recovery efforts.
Blanca Fernández, upon seeing the situation, expressed her impression of the effects of the tornado and deemed it miraculous that no fatalities have been reported. There are numerous families affected with significant losses, from businesses to private properties, and more than a thousand damaged olive trees in the fields.
The mayor of Torre de Juan Abad, María Fresneda, has announced that the declaration of a disaster zone will be requested to access aid and has called for the collaboration of all institutions, additionally allocating a municipal budget to assist those without insurance. The damages have been substantial and include vehicles, roofs, and other structures.
Despite the severe destruction in homes, restaurants, mechanical workshops, and olive groves, the absence of human losses is highlighted, which has led government representatives to offer their support in the reconstruction, a task in which cleaning brigades and firefighters are already involved. Efforts are focused on minimizing additional risks and assessing damages to channel aid efficiently.
