
During an event at the Hotel Marquis Reforma, the American Society of Mexico organized a conference titled "Women Leaders in Action: Inclusion and Diversity are Levers for Real Change." Patricia González and Ivonne Íñiguez, Vice President and Executive Director, respectively, led the meeting.
The conference featured the participation of Teresa Viejo, President of the Diversity Foundation in Spain, a recognized journalist and writer, who highlighted the importance of curiosity as a driving force for change in both the workplace and society. Viejo emphasized that curiosity drives people to explore new possibilities, which, rather than representing a risk, is actually a challenge and an opportunity for personal and professional growth.
Viejo explained that curiosity is crucial for both individual learning and the work environment. In team formation, she pointed out that it is vital to have a combination of different types of curiosity to enrich group work and foster innovation. She also emphasized that problem-solving curiosity is fundamental in contexts of organizational transformation to effectively and rapidly address challenges.
During her intervention, Teresa Viejo presented six types of curiosity that are essential for understanding how they manifest in each person. Among them are scholarly, joyful, social, problem-solving, empathetic, and adrenaline-seeking curiosity. Viejo underscored that curiosity is a quality present in all individuals, manifesting uniquely in each person.
At the end of the conference, Viejo made a call to action, urging attendees to reflect on the importance of curiosity in their lives and roles as leaders. She also mentioned the possibility of taking a curiosity test to identify the levels of this quality in each individual, similar to an intelligence quotient.
Additionally, Viejo addressed how these types of curiosity can be applied in team management, highlighting the importance of activating collective intelligence through curiosity to drive transformation. As an inspiring example, she shared a success story from a metallurgy company where inclusion was promoted through the introduction of rainbow ropes as a symbol of diversity.
