As a result of unprecedented rainfall on the island of Gran Canaria, belonging to Spain, destructive flooding has occurred. Local authorities reported significant destruction and the aftermath of the natural disaster.
As a result of torrential rains, streets on the island turned into rivers, shops, homes, and roads were flooded. Emergency services are evacuating people from inundated areas. Many residents and tourists found themselves in difficult situations due to the flooding.
"We have never seen anything like this. The rain was so intense that in some areas several hours brought as much water as usually falls over several months," noted one of the local residents.
Rescuers are working to the limits of their abilities to ensure the safety of people and minimize damage from the flooding. Continuous monitoring of weather conditions and the potential consequences of the natural disaster is ongoing.
