Violent Storm Causes Fatal Accident in Xermade

A severe storm in Galicia has led to a tragic accident in Xermade, resulting in one death and four injuries during extreme weather conditions. Emergency services continue to respond to numerous incidents due to strong winds and heavy rain.


In Galicia, the storm that began on Friday has caused a chaotic day on Saturday, with winds of up to 120 km/h in Muras, Lugo. The number of incidents exceeded 370, including those reported the previous day. MeteoGalicia has issued an orange alert for the Galician coastline due to heavy rains and winds across the Community, according to ABC.

In Xermade, a serious accident occurred in which one person died and four others were injured, three of them seriously. A medical helicopter and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assist the victims, resulting in a tragic outcome.

For Sunday and Monday, Aemet announced a red alert for the coastline of A Coruña due to the storm 'Herminia,' posing an extreme danger. The population was advised not to approach the coast. Forecasts show no immediate improvements, with the alert level rising from orange to red due to 'Herminia', which is expected to continue affecting the region.

The Axega responded to half of the incidents since Friday in the province of A Coruña, being the most affected. The removal of fallen trees and assistance to prevent flooding were the most common situations. In Xermade, a serious traffic accident occurred during a hailstorm, resulting in one death and four injuries.

The highest level of danger is expected to start at eight in the evening and last until Monday. The orange alert for coastal phenomena will be active in Rías Baixas and the Mariña lucense. Winds could reach between 62 and 88 km/h, with waves from 8 to 10 meters high, as detailed by 112 Galicia.
