Fatal Work Accident Raises Concerns in Spain

A 51-year-old man died after falling ten meters from a caravan parking in Ontígola. The rise in work-related fatalities in Castilla-La Mancha is alarming, with a 75% increase this year.


A 51-year-old man died this Thursday after falling from a height of ten meters in a caravan parking lot at kilometer 56 of the A-4 highway, in Ontígola. Emergency services could only confirm his death due to the impact of the fall. The victim was on the roof of the parking facility at the time of the tragic incident, although it has not been reported what he was exactly doing.

The incident occurred shortly before eleven thirty in the morning, leading to the rapid mobilization of an emergency doctor, a medical helicopter, an ambulance, and the Civil Guard to the accident site. The regional coordinator for Risk Prevention at UGT, Irene Ortega, expressed the union's deep concern over the 75% increase in occupational fatalities in Castilla-La Mancha during 2024, urging companies to strictly comply with the Occupational Risk Prevention Law and strengthen safety measures.

"Companies have the responsibility to ensure the health and life of workers," Ortega stated in a press release, emphasizing the importance of taking measures to prevent tragedies in the work environment. The tragic death of the man in the caravan parking lot highlights the need to address work safety and risk prevention more effectively to avoid future incidents.
