Aldo Olcese, a renowned economist and academic, passed away this Sunday at the age of 64. For nearly a decade, he presided over the Business Sciences section of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF). The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Solbes, awarded Olcese the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, highlighting his contribution to corporate social responsibility and good corporate governance in Spain.

Olcese was a pioneer in the economic thought related to corporate social responsibility. He also served as an advisor to governments of different political stripes on energy issues. Born in Tetouan, Morocco, in 1957, he was distinguished for his academic work and his promotion of good governance policies in the business field.

The economist joined the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences in 2001, becoming at 43 the youngest member of the academy in Spain. In addition, Olcese held significant positions in the economic and business arena and was recognized for his work in promoting social responsibility practices in the business world. His sudden death occurred after suffering a heart attack.

Olcese was part of major financial reforms in Spain and Europe, presiding over various observatories and commissions related to corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. Moreover, he played an important role in the creation of publications that influenced the implementation of ethical and sustainable business practices in large national and international companies.

Among his notable works is 'Creation of Value and CSR in IBEX 35 Companies,' which analyzes the positive effects of corporate social responsibility on economic outcomes and company value. He also presided over the first Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility Observatories of the IBEX 35 and participated in drafting ethical codes for public officials and good corporate governance.
