Google and YouTube Launch New Family Safety Tools

Google and YouTube have introduced new tools and updates aimed at families, focusing on safety. These new options aim to protect children and teenagers online and empower families to create a safer digital environment for minors to navigate.

One of the new features is the 'Managed Contacts' functionality in Family Link, which allows adults to approve the contacts their children can call and text on Android devices. Another tool, called 'Screen Time', simplifies time management in one place by setting time limits and adjusting specific schedules.

Additionally, Google has introduced the 'Controls' tab for families to have access to device management in a centralized space. This allows them to manage each device from a single page, sliding between different profiles.

Regarding YouTube, steps have been taken to protect teenagers from inappropriate content. Certain topics have been excluded from video recommendations for teenagers, such as fraudulent financial advice, criminal or negative content, and those that promote cruelty or mock others.

Furthermore, security measures have been improved for teenagers aged 14 to 17 uploading videos, with a default private setting and a supervised experience for young creators. Adults can receive email notifications about their children's channel activity on YouTube through the YouTube Family Center.
