Severe Flooding in Álora Due to Heavy Rainfall

Álora faces severe flooding after intense rains have led to the overflow of the Guadalhorce river, trapping residents and affecting local infrastructure. Emergency services are on high alert, with a red alert issued for extreme weather risks.

In the last hours, the province of Malaga has been affected by heavy rains that have caused the overflow of the Guadalhorce River at its passage through Álora. Numerous people are trapped in their homes, while vehicles have been swept away by the water and several properties, including a school, are flooded.

According to the Emergency Service 112 of Andalusia, several people have requested help after finding themselves trapped in different areas of Álora due to the heavy rainfall. Rescue teams have been activated to respond to these emergencies, including cases of people trapped in country houses and farmhouses near the Guadalhorce.

The City Council of Álora has initiated its Municipal Emergency Plan and has urged residents to stay in their homes unless it is strictly necessary to go out. The State Meteorological Agency has issued a red warning for extreme risk of rain of up to 120 mm in twelve hours for the Costa del Sol and the Guadalhorce.

The mayor of Cártama has expressed his concern over the possibility that situations similar to those in Álora could occur in his municipality, as the Guadalhorce River also runs through it. The population is urged to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety guidelines.

So far, around 150 incidents have been recorded in the province of Malaga due to the rains. It is expected that the rainfall will diminish during the afternoon, but the red alert remains active until 3:00 PM. Authorities have activated emergency measures to address the situation and ensure the safety of the population.
