Pedro Sánchez to Miss Senate Control Session

The government has excused Pedro Sánchez's absence in the first control session of the year in the Senate, already accumulating almost eleven months without responding to the opposition.

Pedro Sánchez to Miss Senate Control Session

The Government has informed the Senate about the absence of the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, at the first control session of the year in the Upper Chamber, scheduled for next Tuesday. This would be the eleventh time Sánchez has not answered questions from the opposition in an environment where the Popular Party has an absolute majority.

Parliamentary sources have revealed that the Government justified Sánchez's decision not to attend the first control session of 2025 in the Senate to the spokespeople of the groups. The last time Sánchez attended a Plenary with questions in the Chamber was on March 12, being the only occasion so far in this legislative session, as the PP has a majority in the Senate.

On that date, the head of the Executive had to respond to questions from the PP about the 'Koldo case', from ERC about commitments to Catalonia, from BNG about infrastructure in Galicia, and by the investigative committee that might summon his wife, Begoña Gómez. Since then, more than eleven months have passed and Sánchez has been absent, citing scheduling reasons.

Additionally, from the Palace of La Moncloa, it has been mentioned that Sánchez does not feel well treated in the Senate, where the PP has an absolute majority after the last elections. Although the rules of the Upper Chamber do not require him to appear, during the previous legislature, the head of the Executive used to attend about once a month to control sessions to answer questions, especially from the leader of the opposition, at that time senator, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
