Spain and Egypt Sign Bilateral Agreements

Spain's President Pedro Sánchez and Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi have signed various agreements focusing on economic cooperation and circular migration, enhancing bilateral relations.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, received the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, at the Palace of La Moncloa as part of a meeting that strengthens bilateral relations between both countries. During this visit, several agreements were signed, including a key one on circular migration, which was signed by the Spanish Minister of Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, along with her Egyptian counterpart.

In a solemn ceremony in the Barceló hall of the presidential complex, both leaders signed a joint declaration and several memorandums of understanding on economic cooperation and circular migration. This last measure is part of the Spanish Government's efforts to strengthen ties with African countries, considered by Sánchez as key partners for Spain.

The circular migration agreement with Egypt is part of a broader plan for diplomatic relations and cooperation, called Africa-Spain 2025-2028. This pact adds to similar initiatives already established with Mauritania, Senegal, and Gambia, with the aim of promoting a migration model that benefits all parties involved.

Spain's commitment to opening labor mobility programs in collaboration with various African countries seeks to facilitate the hiring of workers in their places of origin for temporary jobs in Spain. This practice has been carried out for decades, as in the case of Moroccan seasonal workers who work in the fields of Huelva.

In the meeting, Pedro Sánchez and Abdel Fattah Al Sisi rejected the plans of the Donald Trump Administration regarding Gaza, emphasizing that this region belongs to the Palestinians. Al Sisi, in turn, thanked Spain's position in favor of a Palestinian state, officially recognized by our country last year.

These types of agreements and collaborations are part of a broader strategy of the Spanish Government to strengthen ties with African countries and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
