Santiago Abascal Criticizes EU Policies in Washington

Santiago Abascal, leader of Vox, accused European institutions of enabling Putin's invasion of Ukraine during a speech in Washington. He also criticized Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for financing Russia's war efforts.

The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has accused European institutions of giving Putin the opportunity to invade Ukraine during a speech in Washington. Abascal pointed directly to the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, stating that the latter is "paying for the bombs that Russia is dropping" in Ukraine. Abascal praised U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance for his statements at the Munich Security Conference, where he mentioned that the greatest risk for Europe is the censorship of freedom of expression and mass immigration.

In his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Abascal criticized the European Union's economic policy and downplayed the impact of the 25% tariffs announced by Trump on Europeans. According to Abascal, Sánchez is buying double the gas from Russia than he did before the war, thus funding part of the conflict in Ukraine. The Vox leader denounced that those who gave Russia the opportunity to invade Ukraine are the same ones who have facilitated Putin's aggression.

Abascal accused the Spanish government of contributing to Europe's energy dependence and partially financing Putin's war. In his speech, Abascal thanked Vance for speaking truths that he claims are being silenced. The Vox leader also pointed out the end of the enrichment of certain European sectors due to changes in the U.S. administration and mentioned that the real tariffs are the Green Deal and excessive taxes.

During his participation in the conservative summit, Abascal met with billionaire Elon Musk. Abascal praised Musk for restoring freedom to a social network and highlighted the importance of ending 'woke' censorship. This stance of Abascal reinforces his alignment with Donald Trump, with whom he shares criticism of certain European policies.

Abascal's visit to Washington comes at a time when Trump has begun discussions with Putin in search of a solution to the conflict in Ukraine, without including European representatives in the initial rounds of dialogue. Abascal defended Trump's position, stating that he only defends the interests of his citizens and suggesting that European leaders should do the same.
