The President of the Extremadura Regional Government, María Guardiola, announced on December 21, that due to budget constraints, she has called a meeting of the regional government, convened by the coalition partners (PSOE, Vox and Unidas por Extremadura), to discuss the matter. Guardiola stated that the elections are not necessary at this time, as the goal is to ensure the stability of the region and maintain its economic standing.
"We need the budgets that have been approved after the election," she added, noting that the coalition partners have been in power for the entire budgetary period. Guardiola also emphasized the importance of key sectors: reducing unemployment, streamlining civil service lists, and reforming infrastructure and public finances.
The decision to call early regional elections "has been made," the president announced, adding that the regional branch of the PSOE Miguel Ángel Gallardo stated that the president had not advanced in the reforms and had frozen the dialogue, "canceling" key financing agreements. "In this time, the Extremadura government has been in charge," she said, naming the main coalition partners.
Guardiola's proposal "has been rejected," she stated, noting that when the time came, the Vox leader on the regional assembly, who had previously called for a vote of no confidence in the Extremadura government, did not present the motion. The Vox leader on the regional assembly, David Arrabal, had previously called for a vote of no confidence in the Extremadura government. Guardiola did not "go to the crossroads," but chose the "normal functioning" of the assembly.
The campaign starts on December 5, and the regional parliament, presumably, will go into recess during the Christmas holidays.
