UCO agents confirm Attorney General destroyed evidence

Testimonies from UCO agents in court confirmed that the Spanish Attorney General voluntarily deleted messages and formatted his phone to conceal evidence in the information leak case.

During the trial of the Attorney General, the testimony of agents from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) came as a shock to the State Attorney's Office. The agents reaffirmed their previous analyses with contundence, directly pointing to the Attorney General as the source of the leaks. One of them stated, «What we see is a domain and hierarchy at all levels of the Attorney General. It was something that caught my attention». The agents noted that to perform a selective filter from March 8 to October 30, one would have needed to be in that office for months. They also declared that the deletion detected in the database was «voluntary, not accidental». According to them, on October 16—the same day the Supreme Court opened a criminal case against him—he deleted all his messages. Furthermore, the accused changed and formatted his mobile phone on October 23, a week after the case was opened and a day before the search of his office. The agents testified that he assured them he had destroyed the device. Regarding his personal Gmail account, they also could not access it because he had deleted it in December, taking all necessary measures to make the recovery of those messages impossible.
