Spanish Government to Replace Minister Without Cabinet Reshuffle

First Vice President María Jesús Montero announced the government will not be reshuffled, and only the minister for the Presidency, Pilar Alegría, will be replaced. Alegría resigned to run for President of Aragon. Montero also addressed recent harassment scandals within the party.

The Spanish government will not undergo a restructuring, but will only replace the minister for the Presidency. This was announced by the First Vice President of the Government, María Jesús Montero. The decision comes after the current minister for the Presidency, Pilar Alegría, resigned to focus on her candidacy for the presidency of Aragon in the upcoming February 8 election. «There will be no government reshuffle, only the minister for the Presidency will be replaced, who will be the next president of Aragon,» Montero clarified. The junior coalition partner, Sumar, had previously demanded a government reshuffle from Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, but Montero dismissed these requests, stating it is «the exclusive competence» of the president. Montero also commented on recent scandals involving allegations of harassment against high-ranking party members. She stated that the party «provides a channel for complaints» and is «a safe space for women,» adding that «it is painful, but even more painful to be in an organization that covers up these cases.»
