The Aragonese Party (PAR) has announced this Thursday, December 18, to all its members the opening of the deadline for submitting nominations for primary elections, in which, if there is more than one candidate, the member who will head the list for the upcoming regional elections on February 8 will be chosen. The deadline for possible electoral coalitions to face off in the first early elections in the democratic history of Aragon, which Jorge Azcón, the current acting president and leader of the 'maños' (people of Aragon) populars, confirmed will be held on February 8, expires on December 26. Aware that they are playing for their survival, the Aragoneseists do not rule out forming a coalition with the PP. The secretary general of the Aragonese Party, Francisco Nasarre, has explained that this call responds to what is established in article 29 of the current statutes of the PAR, which states that the designation of the candidate for the Presidency of the Government of Aragon will be made through a primary election process, whose convocation corresponds to the Executive Commission. Nasarre has pointed out that this procedure 'serves to find out if there is one or more candidates' since 'in accordance with the statutes, primaries will not be held in the event that only one candidacy is presented, which would be proclaimed directly,' which seems the most likely. Once the deadline for submitting candidacies (this Friday, December 19) has concluded, the Executive Commission, in the exercise of its statutory powers, will adopt the appropriate agreements on the call for the primary process and subsequent procedures, which will be communicated to the membership. Despite the significant economic and judicial crisis the party is going through, Izquierdo managed to save his seat in the last 2023 elections and assures that PAR is in a better moment than then, with the party's structure restructured and remodeled, with calmer waters.
