Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has posted several messages on his Instagram profile that he claims to have received via WhatsApp from the employees who have accused him of sexual assault. He states that these messages call the veracity of their complaints into question.
"The evidence is clear: the WhatsApp communications sent by the complainants during the time they worked in my home and the communications after they left, demonstrate that the information being disseminated lacks veracity," the singer states in a statement that he posted on his profile along with screenshots of these messages.
In one of the messages dated April 20, 2021, which he attributes to his employees, it reads: "Good night, professor. I hope you can sleep without discomfort, dream of little angels and get some rest. I love you very much and if you need anything from me, I am at your entire disposal. Thank you for your patience and today's lessons. Every day by your side is valuable to me because I learn a little more (adds a heart) a kiss and a hug!"
In another message (May 1, 2021) it reads: "Hello professor!.."
Iglesias also posted warmer messages, such as: "Dear professor, may God continue to fill you with much health so that you can continue to enjoy this beautiful life, I send you a kiss and a hug, I LOVE YOU."
In his statement, the singer asserts that "it is very serious that lies and disinformation are used as weapons to attack people." Therefore, he attaches "some of the WhatsApp communications that show the inconsistency of the complaints and the media manipulation" to which he claims he is being subjected.
Julio Iglesias's publications come after the Prosecutor's Office of the National Court has, for the moment, rejected the request from Julio Iglesias's lawyer to be admitted to the investigation against him, to have direct access to the content of the complaint for alleged sexual crimes being investigated in Spain.
Iglesias says that Instagram is the "only medium" that allows him to legitimately exercise his "right to defense and to record the absolute falsity of the facts denounced," after the Prosecutor's Office did not allow him to exercise his defense in the proceedings initiated in this country.
