EU Foreign Policy Chief Addresses Current Issues

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Josep Borrell, stated on Friday that the EU is ready to provide assistance to the countries of the Western Balkans in the context of the enlargement process of the union, regardless of the complexities and uncertainties accompanying this process.

His statements came during a visit to the Albanian capital, Tirana. Borrell discussed there the reforms that need to be implemented for the movement of the region's countries forward towards integration into the European Union.

"We are currently facing problems. But this does not mean that we should stop the process of expanding the union," Borrell noted.

He also emphasized that the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 has become a reason for the beginning of a new type of dialogue between the EU and the Western Balkan region.
