Investigation into the Air Europa rescue

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor challenges testimonies from politicians regarding the Koldo case, related to the rescue of Air Europa and the supply of masks, arguing lack of usefulness.

Investigation into the Air Europa rescue

The judge who sent a reasoned report of facts and evidence to the Supreme Court to request the indictment of the politician José Luis Ábalos included references to his possible involvement in the approval of the bailout of Air Europa. This involvement could be relevant for a criminal investigation and therefore it is considered necessary for the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court to take it into account.

In his response to Vox, the judge opposed conducting proceedings regarding the bailout of Air Europa and the company Duro Felguera, arguing that this decision should be made by the Investigating Magistrate of the Supreme Court, as it involves a privileged individual. The Prosecutor's Office considers it hasty to carry out certain proceedings and has chosen to challenge the appeal presented by HazteOír, which requested to summon as witnesses the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the former Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño.

The prosecution's defense is based on the fact that they would not currently provide new relevant data to the investigation, and that such proceedings can be considered in future stages, either in the National Court or in the Supreme Court. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has questioned the usefulness of summoning witnesses who would not provide significant information for clarifying the investigated facts.

Other requests from accusations and defenses, such as the request for documentation regarding the purchase of masks by Adif from the company Innjoo Technology S.L., have also not progressed so far. Ultimately, the judge rejected the request from the Popular Party to conduct witness testimonies to determine the extent of the involvement of Air Europa and Globalia Broker in a mask contract, arguing that it has already been demonstrated that Air Europa transported the material from China at the beginning and that there was no involvement of people linked to the company in the purchase of the same.
