Copa del Rey Round of 16 Kicks Off

A new edition of the Copa del Rey has begun, with the four teams from the last Spanish Supercup (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Athletic Club) starting their participation in the Round of 16. With three big wins from top-tier teams, a new edition of the Copa del Rey kicked off. Sevilla faced Toledo, a fifth-division team, and started at a disadvantage with a goal from defender Sergi Brunet in the 17th minute. However, goals from midfielder Gerard Fernández, a brace from Belgian forward Adnan Januzaj, and a goal from defender Kike Salas were enough to complete the comeback. The most significant victory of the day was achieved by Getafe, who defeated Inter Valdemoro 11-0. Sevilla beat Toledo 4-1 and was one of five Primera División teams to advance to the Round of 32 in the Copa del Rey. In addition, Getafe, with a notable 11-0 victory against sixth-tier Inter Valdemoro, Real Sociedad, Valencia, and Girona also advanced to the next round, while Real Oviedo was eliminated in the first round. The round marked the start of the 121st edition of the oldest tournament in Spanish football history. The first match, involving the last-placed LaLiga team, went to extra time to overcome fifth-tier Constancia 3-2, while Real Oviedo was the only Primera División team to be defeated, losing 4-2 to third-tier Ourense CF. The forwards Hugo Duro, Daniel Raba, Arnaut Danjuma, Diego López, and Luis Rioja were the top scorers. Girona and Real Oviedo had to endure tough matches. In Getafe's victory, forward Juanmi Jiménez scored four goals, while both forward Borja Mayoral and midfielder Javier Muñoz scored braces. Additionally, midfielders Yvan Noupa and Mario Martín, and forward Joselu Pérez each scored one goal to secure a historic victory. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad defeated sixth-tier SD Negreira 3-0, with goals from forward Mikel Oyarzabal and midfielders Beñat Turrientes and Arsen Zakharyan, while a 5-0 win allowed Valencia to advance past Maracena, also of the sixth tier.
