Carlos Alcaraz is preparing in El Palmar for the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, where he will defend his title and attend as the world number 1, although with Italian Jannik Sinner in hot pursuit following his wins in Indian Wells and Miami. A final in Monaco with an Italian victory could snatch the top ranking from him. This Monday, Alcaraz trained with Martín Landaluce at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de El Palmar with his mind set on Monte Carlo, a tournament that will take place from April 5 to 12, where he will defend the title he won last year. Alcaraz, 22, leads the ranking with 13,590 points despite his loss in Miami, a tournament where Sinner was champion after defeating Jiri Lehecka. The 24-year-old Italian has accumulated 12,400 points and is getting closer to the lead, having reduced a difference that was over 3,000 points. Currently, Sinner is only 1,190 points behind Alcaraz, and a win in Monte Carlo could add another 1,000 points, increasing the pressure on the Spaniard. If Sinner maintains his winning streak, he could leave Monaco with 13,400 points, very close to Alcaraz's 13,590. Failing to defend his title would be a risk to his ranking, as a final with a Sinner victory would cause him to overtake Alcaraz in the ATP rankings. Aside from the calculations, the Samuel López pupil continues to prepare intensely at home, sharing the court with Martín Landaluce, who is approaching the top 100 after his great performance in Miami.
