Tragic Fire in Bilbao Leaves One Dead and Many Evacuated

A tragic fire in a wooden building in central Bilbao has resulted in one death and multiple injuries. Firefighters evacuated residents as medical teams assisted those affected by smoke inhalation and severe conditions.


In the center of Bilbao, a fire in a building has had the unfortunate consequence of a woman's death, while at least five neighbors have had to be transferred to hospitals due to their injuries.

The fire, which caused a dense black smoke visible from various points in the city, broke out on the first floor of a five-story wooden building located on Labayru Street, at the corner with Carmelo Gil. The blaze also reached the second floor of the property, forcing firefighters to evacuate several residents from the building, some of whom left the place on their own.

Around 9:20 a.m., emergency teams were still working in the area to assist those affected by the fire, which, according to official information, totaled ten people. Among the injured was a neighbor from the floor where the fire started, municipal sources confirmed to Europa Press.

So far, it has been reported that eight people received assistance for smoke inhalation, while two residents are in serious condition, a man and a woman who suffered a cardiac arrest and underwent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), unfortunately without success.
