Criminal Novel Festival in Cuenca

The Criminal Novel Festival in Cuenca attracts renowned writers and criminology experts, featuring various activities and discussions about noir literature and its characters. The event, celebrating its second day, includes talks and signings with authors like Carmen Mola, Manuel Rivas, and others.

The writer Carmen Mola has captivated the audience at the Aguirre Cultural Center in Cuenca, where a literary event took place as part of the international crime novel festival. Carmen Mola, along with Sergio Vera from Las Casas Ahorcadas, discussed the literary phenomenon and the evolution of their stories, which now unfold in more diverse settings, even killing characters in other locations, including Cuenca.

The authors reflected on the protagonist of the saga, Elena Blanco, and how they have managed to connect with readers through her growth as a character in each book. They also highlighted that they have introduced elements of social critique in the plots without losing the ability to surprise their followers. Although they acknowledged an increase in violence in the stories, they rejected being labeled as "gore" and strive to create creative crime methods.

In addition to the talk, the writers participated in a meeting of reading clubs and signed copies of their books. On the other hand, criminologist Paz Velasco analyzed the crimes narrated in the novels, highlighting the importance of details in character construction. Participants enjoyed various literary activities throughout the day, which included debates, analysis of criminal cases, and signing sessions.

The festival will continue with a wide program in the coming days, including more meetings with authors, talks about crime novels, and reading promotion activities aimed at young students. The participation of prominent figures in the crime genre, as well as interaction with the audience, is an essential part of this literary celebration.
