Decrease in Unemployment Among Women in Galicia

Unemployment in Galicia has decreased, particularly among women, with significant progress noted in employment levels. February saw 9,606 fewer unemployed than last year, marking a record in female Social Security affiliation.


Unemployment in Galicia has decreased by 343 people in February compared to the previous month, representing a decline of 7.36% over one year. By province, Pontevedra has shown the best results with 304 fewer unemployed, followed by La Coruña with 44 fewer and Lugo with 17 fewer.

Regarding the presence of women in the Galician labor market, it is noteworthy that unemployment among women has decreased by 7.35% in the last year, reaching record figures for female employment in the region. In this regard, Galicia recorded its historic high of women affiliated with Social Security last year, totaling 533,647, and the lowest female unemployment rate since 2008.

A report analyzed by the Xunta Council confirms that the presence of women in the labor sector continues to consolidate in Galicia, reflecting an active and dynamic Galician labor market. The Minister of Employment, Trade, and Employment of the Xunta, José González, emphasizes the importance of valuing employment figures in the medium and long term.

Unemployment has decreased in sectors such as services, industry, construction, and agriculture, with declines of 233, 199, 79, and 63 people respectively. However, the province of Orense has experienced an increase of 22 unemployed people compared to the previous month.

In general, Galicia has a total of 120,977 unemployed individuals, according to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. These figures show a positive trend in the Galician labor market, with stable development in the medium and long term.
