The City Council of Toledo has initiated the process of taking over the management of the service for the promotion, encouragement, and development of tourism in the city, which was previously under the responsibility of the Municipal Tourism Board. The Councilor for Tourism, Housing, and Relations with UCLM, José Manuel Velasco, has communicated this proposal to the political groups, which aims to improve the service and achieve a more efficient organization by integrating into the municipal structure.
"Tourism is a very important activity for the economic development of the city of Toledo, and from the beginning, we were clear that we wanted it to be managed directly by the City Council," said Velasco. He emphasized that, although the Tourism Board has functioned, they prefer direct management as an organic advantage.
By virtue of this decision, the eight workers of the Municipal Tourism Board will become part of the City Council's staff. This measure will also allow for the optimization of resources in public contracts, ensure greater transparency in the management of procedures, apply the principles of budgetary stability and financial sustainability more rigorously, as well as promote the rational use of resources, according to several reports from the municipal auditor.
José Manuel Velasco highlighted that the integration of the board into the municipal structure will facilitate better coordination with other areas related to tourism promotion, such as culture and celebrations.
