The Popular Party has responded to the criticisms from the PSOE lamenting how hypocritical and false they consider the municipal PSOE for apparently being unaware of the claims submitted by the City Council regarding the Madrid-Lisbon AVE route through Toledo. PP councilor, José Manuel Velasco, claims that the mayor met with the spokesperson of the Socialist Municipal Group, Noelia de la Cruz, as well as with more than 30 associations and collectives in the city before making the claims document public.
The PSOE criticizes the alliance of the PP with Vox on this issue and regrets that unity and consensus with the other political groups in the Corporation have not been sought to strengthen the municipal stance before the Ministry of Transport and reach unanimous agreement. The PSOE believes that if the mayor had acted differently from the beginning and had clearly shown support for two stations, a more effective real participation could have been achieved.
The mayor is criticized for not calling a planning committee to discuss and agree on the City Council's claims regarding the arrival of the AVE in Toledo, dividing the Toledo society and putting the arrival of the high-speed train at risk. The Socialist Municipal Group regrets having learned about the claims submitted on behalf of the city to the Ministry of Transport through the press and criticizes the lack of transparency and participation from the mayor in this process.
For its part, the PP defends the management of Mayor Carlos Velázquez, highlighting his commitment to the city and its citizens. They state that the PSOE should be more constructive in its criticisms and propose solutions, instead of criticizing without foundation. Velasco points out that the current government works for Toledo under the premise of institutional loyalty towards the opposition parties, but that it is difficult to work with the PSOE due to their attitude.
