The Safont deterrent parking will launch the magenta zone starting next Monday, February 17, as part of a trial period to verify the effectiveness of the barriers and license plate reader. The Councillor of Mobility, Transport, Interior, and Personnel, Iñaki Jiménez, announced that users will not be charged until March 1 in order to ensure the correct functioning of the computer system and provide guarantees to the residents using this service.
"We want everything to work properly, that the computer system has no failures, and thus provide guarantees for all the neighbors who park there," emphasized Jiménez. The Consumers and Users Organization (OCU) has criticized the "merely revenue-raising" nature of the new regulated parking, referring to this plan.
In addition to this implementation in Safont, the parking on Avenida de Europa will also undergo changes, becoming an orange ORA zone. Jiménez informed that the magenta zone in Safont will be exempt from payment for residents registered in Toledo to facilitate parking in congested areas and promote the use of public transport.
To increase security, the City Council has reinforced surveillance in this parking lot and is evaluating the possibility of introducing a subscription for workers who use it frequently.
