About to turn 90 years old, Rafael Canogar is the protagonist of his first institutional exhibition in Madrid in the last 25 years. The show is an extensive book of almost 170 pages that reviews the different stages of Canogar's creative career, highlighting his evolution over seven decades of work dedicated to art.
The book includes texts by the curator of the Rafael Canogar Space, Alfonso de la Torre, and by the patrons of the Royal Foundation of Toledo, Jesús Carrobles and José Ramón de la Cal. One can also find historical correspondence from the artist with prominent creators of the 20th century.
The Mayor of Madrid highlights the importance of remembering the opening, a year ago, of the Rafael Canogar Space in the city. He emphasizes that Canogar is a national and international artistic reference, and that currently a work of his is exhibited at the San Marcos Cultural Center in the exhibition 'Fragmented Gazes'.
The Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports also praises the career of Rafael Canogar, emphasizing that the publication of the book 'Rafael Canogar. The Construction of a Language' accounts for the key work that has marked almost seven decades of art in Spain.
The work, published by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and the Toledo Foundation, highlights Canogar's creative legacy throughout his prolific career. The publication includes numerous reproductions of the artist's works and photographs by authors such as Javier Longobardo and Juan Barte.
At the presentation of the book in Toledo, various authorities were present, including the Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports, Amador Pastor; the president of the Toledo Foundation, Xandra Falcó; the Mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez; and the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo, among others.
The Mayor of Toledo emphasizes Rafael Canogar's figure as an example of cultural excellence despite his almost 90 years. The importance of learning from past mistakes and correcting them through collaboration between public administrations in the cultural field is highlighted.
