Cultural Revelations in Toledo's Visigothic History

During a captivating hour, historian Santiago Castellanos shared intriguing insights into the Visigoth kingdom of Toledo at a cultural event, highlighting its historic significance and influence on future politics.

Historian Santiago Castellanos gave a talk about the influence of the Visigothic kingdom of Toledo at a conference organized by the Cultural Stops project, in collaboration with the Toledo Consortium. During his presentation, Castellanos emphasized the importance of Christianity and the ideology it contributed to the survival of the Gothic kingdom for two centuries.

Toledo was crucial in the formation of a cultural and ideological base that spread its message through councils and laws such as the Lex Visigothorum. The Visigothic kingdom, with its capital in Toledo, consolidated its dominance in Roman Hispania in the 6th and 7th centuries, leaving a significant legacy in history. Castellanos mentioned the Fourth Council of Toledo, led by Isidore of Seville, as a key point in the history of that time.

The speaker compared communication in the Gothic kingdom to current social networks, highlighting the importance of councils in the transmission of messages across different scales of communication. Castellanos explained how the ecclesiastical mechanism allowed the message to reach the illiterate population through sermons and how Toledo influenced later political systems.
