Debate on the Future of the Train Station in Toledo

The Toledo Train Users Association warns about the possible closure of the Santa Bárbara station and advocates for the 'Toledo Central' project during a meeting with the director of Transport.

The association of users expressed their concern about the possible closure of the Santa Bárbara station in Toledo and the construction of a new station in the industrial park. According to the association, the dismantling of the current railway layout in Santa Bárbara would free up urban land for other purposes. After meeting with the General Director of Transport and Mobility of the Ministry of Development, the association advocated for keeping the Santa Bárbara station as the only station.

In an informational note, the association argued in favor of keeping the Santa Bárbara station and avoiding its closure, opposing the proposal from the Junta of Castilla-La Mancha to create a second station in the industrial park. The example of Cuenca was mentioned to illustrate the potential risks of this decision. Users expressed their concern about the Junta's insistence on closing Santa Bárbara.

Both parties agree on the need to build a southern by-pass to connect Toledo with Ciudad Real and Andalusia but differ on the advisability of a second station in Toledo. The Junta defends the mobility benefits that the new station would bring to the industrial park, while users argue that it would divide railway traffic. The lack of consensus between the parties was highlighted, and the importance of communicating to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility the position of maintaining the current station and constructing the southern by-pass was emphasized.
