Silence in Toledo for Victims of Gender Violence

Toledo hosted a minute of silence to condemn recent gender-based murders in Spain. Government officials emphasized the need for continued action against gender violence and discrimination, ensuring safety for women and their families.

At the headquarters of the Government Delegation of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo, a minute of silence was held last Tuesday in protest of the two recent sexist murders in Spain, which occurred in Jaén and Girona. The Government delegate of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, led this event and expressed her sorrow over the situation, highlighting the importance of continuing to raise awareness and combat gender-based violence in the country and the region.

"We still have a lot to do to ensure that women feel safe, supported, and prepared to report and confront this great scourge, which impacts not only women but also their children," Tolón stated during the event. She emphasized that the Government of Spain is working hard to reduce this issue and that the second Pact against Gender Violence was recently approved in the Congress of Deputies.

The delegate called for the unity of all institutions, administrations, and society as a whole to combat gender violence, eradicate inequality, and eliminate any form of discrimination against women. Tolón promised they would continue working tirelessly to end this situation, also remembering the victims of 11-M on the European Day in Memory of Victims of Terrorism.

The minute of silence was attended by employees of the Delegation, representatives of the State Security Forces and Corps, as well as officials from the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha and councilors from the Toledo City Council. Among them were the Councilor for Social Services, Marisol Illescas, and the spokesperson for PSOE, Noelia de la Cruz.
