69th Seminci Awards Celebrate Film Excellence

The 69th Seminci in Valladolid awarded 'Misericordia' the Golden Spike, honoring Patricia Ferreira posthumously and recognizing talents like Laura Weissmahr and Jan Gunnar Roise. A vibrant celebration of cinema with awards presented in a star-studded gala.


At the closing gala of the 69th edition of the International Film Week of Valladolid (Seminci), the awards of this year were announced. The group León Benavente and Jorge Arribas from the Duo Fetén Fetén also participated in the event. Additionally, a posthumous tribute was paid to director Patricia Ferreira, awarded with an Honorary Spike.

The jury granted a special mention to actors Ángela Molina and Alfredo Castro for their performances in 'Polvo serán'. Guan Hu was also awarded the Ribera del Duero Prize for Best Director for 'Black Dog' and Elena Manrique received the Pilar Miró for Best New Spanish Direction for 'Fin de Fiesta'.

The Golden Spike of the Official International Section went to the film 'Misericordia' by Alain Guiraudie. Furthermore, Laura Weissmahr was honored as Best Actress and Jan Gunnar Roise and Thorbjorn as Best Actors. The cinematography in 'Black Dog' by Gao Weizhe and the script of 'Misericordia' were highlighted.

In the Official Section Meeting Point, 'Holy Cow' by Louise Courvoisier won the main prize. In the Official Section Alquimias, 'La Parra' by Alberto Gracia was awarded the grand prize. In the Official Section Time of History, 'Youth (Hard Times)' by Wang Bing won the grand prize.

The event featured the presentation of Televisión Española and Movistar Plus+, and the main awards were presented at a gala hosted by Elena Sánchez and Miss Beige. 'Misericordia' was the big winner of the festival, with Alain Guiraudie as one of the highlighted awardees. The Best Actor and Best Actress awards were presented at the last moment to a room full of applause.

The director of the film 'Misericordia' thanked the festival for its support of her work and criticized those who do not understand satire. The announcement of the winners took place at the Calderón Theater, highlighting the public and filmmakers' support for Seminci, which enjoyed good attendance.

Among the awardees in other categories are Concha Barquero and Alejandro Alvarado with 'Caja de Resistencia', Jenifer de la Rosa with 'Hija del volcán', Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel with 'La tutoría', and many more. The awards for short films were also presented during the closing gala.
