Farewell Skype: Transition to Microsoft Teams

Starting May 5, 2025, Skype will no longer be available as Microsoft transitions to Microsoft Teams for a more modern communication experience. Users can migrate their data easily.

Farewell Skype: Transition to Microsoft Teams

Starting in May 2025, Skype will no longer be available. When logging into Microsoft Teams with your Skype account, chats and contacts will appear in the application so you can continue where you left off. The decision was officially announced by Microsoft, the company that has owned the service since 2011.

When trying to access the mobile application of Skype, users were greeted with a message confirming its permanent closure.

Skype was one of the first platforms to offer real-time digital communication, and since its launch in 2003, it became an essential tool for millions of people around the world.

According to the message issued by Microsoft in the same application, Skype has been discontinued to make way for a more modern communication experience: its integration with Microsoft Teams. This latter platform, which became widely popular during the Covid-19 pandemic, allows users to collaborate and communicate in a centralized environment, combining chat, calls, and productivity tools.

"Goodbye Skype, hello Teams. You can also export your Skype data," reads the official message.

Microsoft assures that users will not lose their information. Monday, May 5, 2025, marks the end of an era: Skype, the historic application for calls, video calls, and messaging, will no longer be available. If you have a profile on Skype, you will be able to migrate your contacts and conversations to Microsoft Teams, as long as you authorize the data transfer.

This transition aims to provide a more updated, secure, and comprehensive version to continue communicating seamlessly from Skype to Teams.
