Disney+ will implement new measures starting November 12, 2024, to prevent account sharing between people who do not live at the same location. In case of detected violations, the platform may restrict access to those specific devices, while still allowing account usage on different devices within the same household and during travel.
The platform will monitor accounts to identify access from locations or devices not associated with the registered primary address. This action follows the line of similar measures adopted by other streaming platforms, like Netflix. Disney+ will define a "home" as the set of devices linked to the primary address of the account. The purpose of this initiative is to prevent misuse of accounts, allowing subscribers to use them outside home, such as during travel, as long as they adhere to the service rules.
In a statement sent to users, the company warned about the account review to ensure that only devices in the same residence have access with the same subscription. This measure may require users to adjust their consumption patterns and eventually consider acquiring more subscriptions within families. This action adds to the decision made by Netflix in 2023 when it implemented a similar policy.
