It was recently announced that free passes on Rodalies and the 50% discount tickets on some transport titles in Barcelona would be available only for a limited time. The Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM) confirmed that current fares will continue to apply until official communication of the cancellation of bonuses is made, following the publication of the repeal of the state decree in the Official State Bulletin.
As for immediate changes, the most visible adjustments have occurred in Renfe fares, while the reduced prices of the T-usual and T-jove will remain in effect until new instructions are received. It is important to consider that, if the end of the decree is confirmed, transport titles could become more expensive with the disappearance of the 30% discount subsidized by the government.
The ATM has ensured that they will maintain the agreed bonuses of 20% on the specified titles, reaffirming their commitment to the citizenship and the promotion of sustainable mobility. This news has impacted public transport users in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, who have enjoyed these price aids since mid-2022.
Despite the uncertainty about when the fares will be updated following the removal of the state discount, the ATM has communicated that the titles will remain available until their respective expiration, including those with a 50% discount on Avant trains that no longer apply. Although an extension of these aids until June was expected, the decision to revoke them has abruptly changed the situation.
In this context, the importance of route planning through mobile applications like Moovit is highlighted, which provide real-time information on the most efficient public and private transport options. Although certain free passes have abruptly ceased, their use will be allowed until the end of April for current beneficiaries.
